Well said. Observations that are obvious to all of who moved to the US from Europe. And it got worse. A lot. I moved from London to L. A. in 1994 and at that time the middle school down the road had no fence. Then up came a 6-foot fence. Only to be replaced by an 8-foot fence a couple of years ago. And then this obsession with signs, the most "amusing" that around the school there is a "school zone" and punishment for crimes in that "school zone" is more severe than outside the zone. Well, anyone planning a crime, even if as mild as jay-walking or speeding, will do so with the expectation not to be caught. So treating with more severe punishment just further fuels the fear-fire.
